Attack the Block

Attack the Block

The film was financed by Studio Canal and film4 with a budget of £8 million, other studios involved are UK Film council and Big Talk pictures. Joe cornish made his directorial debut with the film, previously only directing tv series. The film was produced by Nira park, james wilson, and Edgar Wright was executive producer known for shaun of the dead and his work with nick frost. The film was shot in london at the heygate estate in southwark and islington which is where the film is set in the story. An intersting find on the film would be that the director Joe cornish Grew up and lives in south london where the film is set, also the gangs in the film refer to the aliens as some classic characters of british origin such as Gollum from Lord of the rings and Dobby from Harry Potter. There was a little CGI used as possible in the making of this film, the actors were genuinly terrified of the monsters in the film as they were actually there in the room with carefully construced masks, there physcial presence changed the way they acted.

The film was distributed with posters, a website featuring the same image but animated with sound effects, also the website tied in a video game based on the film in the itunes store. The film promotions all mention that it was produced by the same people as "Shaun of the dead" attracting the attention of the fans on that film and other films featuring edgar wright and his cast of simon peg and nick frost.

The film won alot of awards bringing in more attention including best narrative, best visual concept, best debut director, best actor to john boyega and best original soundtrack.
